With the issue of abortion being so prevalent right now I wanted to share a story that is very significant to me.
About 25 years ago a mother I look up to now, was pregnant with her second born. She started out her pregnancy like any other. The excitement of a newborn on the way and an addition to the family brought joy. Around the normal time before 20 weeks, they did the usual test of alpha Fetal protein, which detects birth defects and genetic disorders. When the results were in, the Dr. called and said to come in to talk about what they had found…
There was a high likelihood that their son was going to have Down syndrome.
At this discovery, they then asked the elephant in the room question; if she wanted to terminate the pregnancy and avoid all chances of their son being born with this. But never used the term “abortion”.
Of course, her answer was no. At that, they requested to do a high-level ultrasound that she would need to go to the hospital for. This ultrasound would allow them to see better signs of it. The things they looked for were a larger heart, a larger head, and a thicker neck. After it was complete, they confirmed that their son had all three things, and again mentioned terminating the pregnancy. She refused and told them to never bring it up again.
With this painful news, they asked Christians to pray all over the place. If anyone could do something about it, God could.
As the pregnancy continued, the Dr. wanted to do another ultrasound, later on, to see if anything changed, but in trusting God, the parents declined this time. If he was going to be Down syndrome then so be it. They would cross that road when it came time to.
Fast forward to his birth. In the wee hours of an April morning, this handsome baby boy was born a healthy and robust 8.12 lbs.
Every single part of this boy falsified what these ultrasounds had read.
Not only was the diagnosis wrong, but a failed attempt at the devil’s scheme to end another innocent child’s heartbeat. But even then, whether he was born with it or not, his parents knew his life was precious and sacred in God’s eyes. Their son was able to grow up living his boyhood to the fullest.
This baby boy that I’m writing about- this is my husband.
The father of my children and the man God has used to impact so many lives positively for Christ. I’m so thankful for God’s hand in his life.
What would’ve happened if it was a different scenario? If his parents didn’t believe in life being sacred in the womb and chose an abortion? The impact of just one decision to save a child’s life is more far-reaching than we can comprehend. Who are we to decide whether to take the breath of the innocent or not?
