“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.”
â€â€Isaiah‬ â€49‬:â€15‬ â€ESV‬‬
If you have a nursing infant or have nursed, then (usually) you know the bond and emotional attachment you have between you and your baby with this.
The feeling of the constant pull to know they’re safe and healthy. The tug at your heart strings when they cry. The sense of relief and peace when they’re in your arms nursing.
I recently finished weaning our last born. He turned 20 months, and I knew it was time.
I nursed all 3 of my babies to 20 months.
To say it was emotionally hard to end it, is an understatement. The bond I’ve been able to create with each of my babies through breastfeeding isn’t something I can describe.
For me, it’s the most genuine, purest form of affection between me and my children.
Between all 3 children, I did the math, totaling 5 years. 5 years of nurturing my children in a way only God designed me too. 5 years of cultivating a blanket of security and calm when my babies needed it most. 5 years of feeling invaluable to these 3 precious souls.
And to think that as close of a bond as possible that I have with my children, that God cares for us even more. He never forgets his children and their needs. His love never fails us or lets us down.
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
â€â€Psalm‬ â€107‬:â€1‬ â€ESV‬‬
While this chapter of carrying children in my womb and breastfeeding, is over. This next chapter is exciting and new. God’s timing is perfect. Each stage of life with its season happens without coincidence, it’s meant to be.
It’s bittersweet but beautiful.
I will never take for granted the bond God created and gave me with my babies through nursing. I’m so thankful and so grateful.
Here’s to the next season of motherhood.🤍
Xoxo,
Shantel
