This topic was mentioned when I did a poll a while ago of topics you’d like me to write about. Between personal life events and COVID restrictions, our spiritual life and fellowship can take a beating. I myself am a task-oriented person so I struggle with making sure I spend time with others. Finding what makes us spiritually strong during times of distance or fog by physical things can be a challenge. Whether you’ve spiritually backslidden, or feel in a rut, or just want to do more to stay connected to Christ and His church, these are things that have helped me tremendously, and I pray they can help you too! I have to toil at this each day, but God works on me continually, and the more I fellowship, the more I am full.
1. Quiet time with God.
If I was to pick 1 thing that helps me outside of meeting with the body of Christ as in Acts 2:42, it would be spending 1 on 1 time with God. I started at a young age. As kids, we did devotions every morning at the breakfast table and prayed together. This is a great option with young ones!! As we got older and we each made the decision to be baptized into Christ we started our own study time in God’s Word and prayer. Having that has helped SO much as I’ve gotten older. After having Hudson because I was laid up sitting a lot I took that time to get into God’s Word and pray about everything happening as a new mother. Have I always been consistent?? Absolutely not! But with routine, yearning for a time of quiet rest, and conviction when I get off track I start again and find that as I go I’m pouring through so much scripture that’s relating to me and also an encouragement! I plan to do a post about how I study soon.
2. Fellowship with Christians
I know what you’re thinking. We’re not supposed to see people much still. If your choosing to keep your distance that’s okay, to each your own. Zoom is a great option as well as FaceTime for Bible studies and even singing. If you’re meeting with people, having others over in your home, or going out for a fun outing or meal, are great fellowship options! As a mom, meeting up at a playplace, or a picnic, are fun ones with kids!
3. Find ways to serve and be active in the church.
Whether your church is able to meet or not. There are so many ways still that you can serve and be active in your church. We as women can do many things in the church that don’t require leadership roles. Here are a few ideas! I use this as a list to look at when I feel that I’m not doing enough in the church and to evaluate if I am doing my part.
If in person church:
- Volunteer to help with making bulletins or slideshows.
- Prepare communion at church.
- Make the communion bread.
- Clean the church.
- Upkeep the church nursery.
- Decorate the church.
- Decorate the bulletin board.
- Use your musical talent whether an instrument or voice.
- Be active in your youth group.
- Teach the age class your child is in.
COVID ways
- Send encouraging cards or texts to people.
- Check-in with those elderly during the week to see how they are doing.
- Put together a meal for a new mom or sick family.
- Start a ladies group message to share praise, and prayers.
4. Lastly, listen to spiritual audio.
Whether it’s music, a podcast, radio drama, Bible stories, there’s a vast amount of ways to do this. Some of my favorite artists include Mandisa, Hillsong, Lincoln Brewster, Britt Nicole, and Michael W. Smith.
Growing up we listened to a radio drama titled “Adventures in Odyssey”. It’s a family radio drama that has great morals it teaches. It’s terrific for kids. We often listened to “Your Story Hour” as well which is a great dramatization of Bible stories that gives detailed insight. I myself will on occasion listen to Priscilla Shire or other spiritually encouraging messages. (Disclaimer: our beliefs differ on doctrinal items but the all-around morals are portrayed and expressed excellently.)
These are just a few things that have been a help in my Christian walk with how COVID has changed things- and as well as being a newer mom. I hope these are a help to you in seeing ways to get active in your Christian walk and in fellowship more with the body of Christ. Have any other ideas? Comment below, I’d love to hear them!
