My First American Girl Doll

I

What’s one thing you own that holds deep sentimental value?

When I turned 8 or 9, that was the year. That was the beginning of my love for those perfectly mesmerizing exquisite dolls that would later turn into my favorite toy I’d ever own.

That year Elizabeth Cole was it. The twinkling blue eyes, long blonde hair, and dainty ringlets framing her face. It was my match made for me.

I stared at that American Girl magazine day after day and that was all I wanted for Christmas that year.

I vividly remember one Sunday going to sit with my Pappa in his church pew, clutching my magazine waiting ever so patiently till church was over to show him the 18in. doll that meant so much to me.

Christmas Day came. I held my breath. So many wonderful gifts. But that pretty wrapped box, just the right size, I just hoped that was it.

I opened it. My eyes lit up. She was here. My heart grew about 10 sizes that day. But not just for the doll. But for the giver. You see, my Pappa had been widowed for many years and the gifts he gave were ones I cherished. Ones I held onto and knew the significance of from him. It was A Christmas I’d always remember.

With Love,

Shantel
