I love the fun job of pairing the right necklace and earrings with an outfit. For me it makes my outfit feel complete and a little more put together. Whether it’s a stay-at-home kinda day or it’s errands and coffee date day, I always love a little bit of jewelry. But what I had to figure out, was how to pair my jewelry together. A friend approached me and asked about this very thing and how I went about putting the 2 together, as well as what metals can be mixed and matched. Sooo this blog post is entitled Jewelry 101! I’m going to explain what process I use and a couple of rules of thumb to help guide you along in your jewelry search. I am also linking some great pieces of jewelry that are very versatile and blend with outfits easily.

When picking earrings and a necklace, I almost always pick the necklace first! This is due to the fact that the necklace is in a more prominent place. It has more of a statement to it as well as character and color. Choosing the necklace first also helps you complement your attire and the earrings just add to it.

👉Rule of thumb #1) – Be careful not to mix statement metal pieces. Pairing chunky gold hoops and a chain gold necklace are such a solid look. However, stay away from mixing those in silver and gold. It looks less complimenting and more clashing.

👉Rule of thumb #2) – Be careful to not mix match bold statement colors! So you’ve picked out your favorite gold statement necklace and you love it. You go to pick your earrings and decide on a pair of blue dangles…yes! The tones compliment each other rather than distract. In most case mixing bolder tones are too busy, there are a few that can look good, just watch that they don’t clash. Here are some great metal tones that complement one another. These ARN’T go by the book color matches, but just some helpful suggestions when picking sets.

Gold with black, red, pink, blue, or green.- More deep tones. Silver with yellow, orange, and bright white.- More light tones.  Here are a few examples! I’ve also linked some of my favorite jewelry here as well!

  1. […] And as for earrings I wear statement earrings for either option. Because most earrings are away from your neckline I believe you can rock them with 95% of most outfits. This is the type of fashion move that you have to just play around with yourself, and find your groove with styling an outfit! I believe bracelets are much the same as well as rings. If you’d like to know how to mix metals and color tones in jewelry I have a post HERE. […]
