Finding satisfaction in hard work, it’s our lot in life; Thursday Thoughts.

“This is the one good thing I’ve seen: it’s appropriate for people to eat, drink, and find enjoyment in all their (labor) hard work under the sun during the brief lifetime that God gives them because that’s their lot in life.” Ecclesiastes 5:18 CEB.

I’m reading in Ecclesiastes at the moment and there are 2 things I got from this particular passage.

First, It’s appropriate to find enjoyment in all our hard work. Seeing value in our labor rather then looking for the praise of others is less relevant in our society today. The notoriety of others clouds the satisfaction that we can have in just the ability to do our best. Growth is absolutely critical, but worldly standards as apposed to Gods standards won’t ever bring you contentment.

Secondly, The definition of labor is “work, especially hard physical work.” It’s a pity that this little know fact- especially peers, don’t know what it means to work hard. The Bible directly says it’s our “lot in life”. To work hard, and enjoy it!

Right now, I’m seeing and hearing of so many youth in my age group that don’t know how to work hard or hold a steady job. While too much input from the world takes a toll on youth, it also shows a lack of work ethic in the home.

After reading this I’ve become more sure of 2 things. See the value in hard work according to Gods standards. And train up the child in my home to work hard and see the value in it himself.

I agree! I especially loved the lines “Right now, I’m seeing and hearing of so many youth in my age group that don’t know how to work hard or hold a steady job. While too much input from the world takes a toll on youth, it also shows a lack of work ethic in the home.” I find it all too common myself (though, I must say I also find myself guilty of it from time to time 🙂 )

    1. It’s definitely something that we have to push against, and it’s not easy!

No it is not! But doesn’t it feel oddly rewarding when we do?

        1. Absolutely! And it makes us as parents so much that more aware of how we teach by example in the home!😅
