This week I’m my Bible reading I’ve been studying the judges, and more specifically Gideon.
Gideon was a man that God used in a very huge way to relieve Israel of the Midianites hold over them.
But honestly, what stuck out to me more then anything wasn’t how brave he was. It was actually how afraid he was!!
The act of tearing down his fathers idols caused him to fear.
“So Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the Lord had told him. But because he was too afraid of his family and the men of the town to do it by day, he did it by night.”
Judges 6:27 ESV
Gideon did it, but he did it afraid.
And YET! He was called “Mighty Man of Valor” (Judges 6:12).
And then the story goes on to where Gideon is now only equipped with 300 men to go up against at least 135,000 Midianites.
“That same night the Lord said to him, “Arise, go down against the camp, for I have given it into your hand. But if you are afraid to go down, go down to the camp with Purah your servant. And you shall hear what they say, and afterward your hands shall be strengthened to go down against the camp.” Then he went down with Purah his servant to the outposts of the armed men who were in the camp.”
Judges 7:9-11 ESV
His act of going down to camp showed that he was still afraid.
But yet, he did it again afraid!
This example right here, shows that sometimes we have to do things scared. Just because we fear something, doesn’t mean it’s our way escape. No, it’s our way of seeing God at work in order to defeat our fear.
Those story resonated with me. Because there’s many days I’ve found myself living in a state of fear that doesn’t go away easy. But yet, God shows up time after time to come along side me and give me the help and strength to get thru things. Not escape them, BUT to get thru them. He is faithful!
