Happy Saturday!
Today I am sharing with you all my personal take on how I shop with a purpose to create the wardrobe I want to wear!
I love shopping. I love a good deal. I love going to the clearance section of any store and finding a fabulous piece for cheap. And sometimes I like spending a little more on an item that will last longer.
But… what I don’t love about this experience, is the decision making part.
Yes it’s a great deal, yes I like it, but do I really love it and will I wear it? Or is it too expensive for the time I’ll actually wear it?
These are the questions that I ask.
So, here’s my strategy of how I do it ladies, and I hope YOU find this helpful in your shopping trips as well. And in all disclosure and honesty, I DONT always follow this, some days I do splurge and then the next day regret it, so don’t beat yourself up too hard if you don’t follow it to a “T”.😉
- So before I even do the shopping… Anytime I’m putting an outfit together or see an item somewhere I like, I have a running clothing shopping list on my phone. This is THE BEST way to know what you don’t have in your closet and to remember what you want/need. And anytime you shop you have a purpose and can keep an eye out for it wherever you go, as well as price compare with different stores.
- Once I am shopping and find an item I want, the first thing I normally do is check the price. It’s a habit, literally. If it’s out of my budget/ price range I don’t hold it or try it on. Because if I DO try it on or hold onto it, then end up really wanting it, at that point, it’s harder for me to say no…☹️ Now one thing I do sometimes if it’s an item I pick it up and just immediately fall in love with, but it’s out of my price range, I will save for it till I can buy it. And also that time while I save that little extra will also help either reaffirm my want for it or cause me to decide not to purchase it.
- So what if you did find a piece that you like that is in your price range? This is how I decide whether or not to get it? The first thing I do is carry it around the store with me. I don’t instantly buy it. I think about what I have at home to wear with this item. As well as if I take it home am I gonna love it as much as I do at the store in my closet. For me, sometimes it looks cuter in-store than at home. So I either try it on or think of a specific item(s) that I can wear with it at home. Even if it’s a $4 clearance sweater that’s cute but you don’t love it, you’ll probably wear it once and then regret that you even spent that $4 on it. Unfortunately, I’ve made this mistake and have slowly learned that it’s just not worth it in the end. BUT, when you do find that $4 clearance sweater and you love it, then girl you scored!!! That’s the best feeling!❤️
- Once I bring the item home that I bought, I actually put an outfit together with it, so that not only will I not forget it in my closet but also so that I know I have something I will love wearing with it.
That’s it, ladies! I hope this is helpful for you so that you can pick pieces you’ll love wearing and that will stay in your closet a while. And also, that it might even make your shopping experience more fun. Shopping trip here we come!
