Chopped!
Ever heard of the show “ Chopped” from the FOOD network? This is it, just even more fun because you get to do it at home in real life! I also love that this can be done with school-age kids too. So here’s how it works. Have one designated judge that leaves the room while the cooking is happening. Either form teams or each play by themselves. Then everyone is given 3 items they have to use in their dishes. Usually, it’s something more foreign to what you usually eat in your home. And this keeps things interesting and creative. Then you pick how much time they have to create one entree,(or can be an entree with a side dish). We usually pick 1 hour that way if something needs to be defrosted or cooked longer no one is overly rushed. I recommend if it’s a big family to have extra griddles, instapots/ rice cookers, a George Foreman grill, etc. on hand so that not everyone’s crowding the oven. Then you set the timer and the chefs get to work. Anything in the kitchen can be used for their dish! Once the hour is up, have each team/person plate their food and set it on the table. Have the judge come back and decide which one they like best based on if the 3 foods were used, taste, and presentation. That’s it! For fun usually, the team/person will receive a small gift card to somewhere as their prize. Oh, and so that mom doesn’t have to clean all the mess, have the kids clean up after the meal whatever they used! HAVE FUN!
$10 Mall Shopping Challenge
This one is such a fun one to do with a big group! So how it works is we go to the mall and all have $10 to spend. We have 45 mins for this challenge and we can go anywhere in the mall. Here’s the GOAL: spend the closest to $10 but get the biggest discount on the 1 item. It’s so fun and such a great way to learn how to get a good discount! The best margin difference closest to ten bucks wins!
Fondue Night
Cheese and chocolate, the best 2 things! So for dinner, we will make cheese fondue (Pinterest has lots of recipes) and use that for a dipping sauce to go with all things you can pair with it. Here are a few things we eat: sourdough bread, sausage cut-up, little smokies, olives, roasted broccoli, pretzels, carrots, cut-up meats, etc. For the chocolate fondue we do, mixed berries, strawberries, marshmallows, pretzels, banana, pineapple, apples, etc.
it’s a fun way to enjoy these dips and also a great idea for entertaining people too!
