Brotherly love.

The other day I took Harrison’s 6 month pictures. Which feels crazy that it’s already been that long since he’s been a part of our little family. He’s such a good baby and loves just being with us and interacting with his siblings. And likewise, his older brother and sister dote on him like he’s a little prince. It’s precious.

So when I took his pictures the other day, the 2 older ones had to be in on it too. Hudson got his kids camera out and sissy got her toy play one, and they insisted on taking his picture as well.

How often do we cheer our brothers and sisters on in Christ? Do we encourage, admonish, inspire them as they walk with Christ? Do we feel a deep appreciation for their growth and ways they give back to the Body of Christ?

Or do we feel the need to try to be better than them? One up what they’ve done, and lose focus on unity but rather focus our what our image actually looks like.

Sibling love and banter is one of the most meaningful but also interesting relationship dynamics there are. But at the end of the day, as I watch my children cheer each other on and love one another, it brings me so much joy.

Our love for Christ must outlast our selfish desires to care about what we LOOK like and rather appreciate what our brothers and sisters in Christ, ARE like. The Holy Spirit unifies us and works through all of us. Our gifts are different. Our achievements are different. But our love for each other isn’t.

“and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.”

1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 ESV
