Valentine’s Day can be such a wonderful holiday. Whether you’re married, single, or even have a family, a day centered around love can be fun for everyone! So, I wanted to share 5 ways that are simple, fun, but meaningful to celebrate the day.
(Luke 10:27) He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
- Make pink heart-shaped pancakes. When I was a little girl I remember making pink jello pancakes with my Mammy. They were easy, and what better way to start the day than with a warm heart. I’ve linked a great easy recipe here for them!
- Make a heart card for someone you love. I always loved doing Valentine exchanges with my friends growing up. It was so fun seeing all the little different designs and cute treats. If you have kids it’s still a super fun tradition and though with COVID it makes it harder to see people. Sending them in the mail can be just as fun too! And for us adults, just making a simple card for whether it’s your spouse, a sibling, or a friend, to tell them what they mean to you is just as meaningful. I’ll be making a few with Hudson!
- Put a “love your neighbor” bag together for a neighbor. I was so excited when I came up with this idea! I was inspired to do it by the family tradition of “You’ve Been Jingled”. We do it each year at Christmas. It entails where we put a gift bag together with a few holiday items then go to a neighbor, jingle their doorbell and dash off. So for this one, I’m going to do something similar, but this time with the theme of “love your neighbor” for Valentine’s Day! I’ve also included a fun template I created HERE to print out and put in your bag!
- Read the story of the Good Samaritan. This is a great one for no matter the age. It’s such a great reminder of who we are to love, show kindness to, and give grace to. I’ll be studying it for myself but also do a version for Hudson that’s great for kids!
- Eat a heart-shaped pizza. This one dates back to when we were kids. We would get a heart-shaped Pepperoni Pizza from Papa Murphys. It was a fun memory and were definitely going to try to do it with Hudson this year!
Valentine’s Day means something different to everyone, AND it can be enjoyed by everyone! I hope these give you some fun ideas to celebrate the day. I’m so thankful for the ultimate love that God showed when he sent his Son to be the sacrifice for our sin. It’s a gift of love that is to treasure and beyond all the love we could ever ask for.
Xoxo, Shantel
